Miss Muffet Character Reference

Written by Austin Hines  |  Wednesday, 02 September 2009

This will be my first time designing a cartoony character. I want to make Miss Muffet very expressive, and this great image by Andrew Hickinbottom seemed a good place to start for reference.

I'm using the following image for facial development, not clothing and body reference. Fear not, Morals Board, Miss Muffett will be fully clothed.

I want Miss Muffet's appearance to be appealing, but naturally funny. Her character should be immediately clear based solely on her design.

I'm going to check out a Gnomon DVD from the library about character design, so I can learn about techniques of accenting certain body features to convey character.

Muffet's Tuffet Project Launched!

For my final project in this CG Modeling and Animation course, we were assigned to develop a short animation based around a nursery rhyme. I decided to do a unique version of "Little Miss Muffet." I'll be keeping everyone aprised of how production is going here.

Here's the full text of the nursery rhyme, in case you don't remember:

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet,
Eating her curds and whey;
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.
